A popular annual event in KwaZulu Natal, the Amashova Durban Classic is a gruelling but safe race. The race was first cycled in 1986 and has grown in popularity, attracting over 10 000 cyclists every year.
The 106 kilometre route follows a similar route to the Comrades marathon, starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and ending in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. A shorter 38 kilometre race is also run from Hillcrest High School to the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
